Father in law gave me a trapdoor Springfield. It looks like it is stamped 1878, but thanks to your site I know it's really an 1873. Serial is 361564 and other markings include a capital A between the breech and distance sight on the top of the barrel, along with a capital V, P, a cartouche that looks like a bird's head, and another capital P on the left side of the barrel. On the bottom of the barrel - I removed it from the stock without issue - is a wavy line over the number 2 which is over a cartouche that looks like a pie with six slices. A few inches down is another capital A. Barrel is 28 and a quarter inches from tip to breech block. Curious if you can tell me anything about the gun. Like, is it a rifle or a "cadet rifle" or any other info. Great info on your site and thanks in advance.
