Remember, Custer stuff is thought to be very interesting and scarce and therefore valuable. That has been incentive for numerous people to create, speculate, hope or fantasize about a Custer connection for all sorts of items in hopes of making a nice profit. Some may be genuine Custer related items, some are obviously not, and some have varying degrees of plausibility.
Two quotes come to mind: Harold Peterson, former head of the National Park Service collections: "I don't worry about the fakes I recognize, but I worry a lot about the fakes I don't recognize."
P.T. Barnum, circus owner: "There is a sucker born every minute."
People looking for "Custer type" items can find a wide variety at sometimes reasonable prices. People looking for actual "Custer used" items have a very daunting challenge separating fact from fiction and better have deep pockets if they can find a proven item.
