I hope some of you very knowledgeable experts can please help me with a Wild Ass Guess on the approximate value of an M73 Metcalfe. I'm trying to accurately value some of my stuff so the wife will know what she has when I am gone, no time soon I hope. It is in excellent condition and I will rate it at least 90% on the metal and 75% on the wood . I can not prove it is not a put together specimen but it most likely is. I did disassemble looking for evidence of a put together. Every thing appears correct, even the stock inletting for the device and the back of the lock plate. It is very clean internally. There are some tiny little chips of the wood missing on edges in places where you would not expect them to be. The front corner under the nose cap, the toe under the butt plate, around the lock plate screw washers, etc. Maybe the stock did lay around someplace in a stripped down condition and got beat up a little. The serial number is 66061 and it was made in the second quarter of 1876. I also have 2 (two) unopened cartridge blocks and a belt hanger. One block is in near new condition and the other shows some wear of the paper around the edges. The leather of the belt hanger is still not cracked and is very flexible. I am embarrassed to say how much I paid but maybe your input will help me feel better. Thanks a bunch before hand! Dennis
