Not really, it depends on what color the wood was originally and how it has been handled over the years. It will always be a brownish red (or a reddish brown). Sometimes a lot of dirt and sweat will have been absorbed, and sometimes not.

I'm prejudiced, but if I were looking for a proper stock, I would note that the closeup photos of my #62 in "Trapdoor News" pretty well show what I'd be looking for.
