About three weeks ago, I found a newspaper article, circa 1905, in Chronicling America, the Library of Congress newspaper webpage. It detailed the dumping of various arms, seized under "the new gun law". As this was a New York newspaper, this must be a reference to the Sullivan law. Various arms were alluded to, including Springfield rifles and, I believe, new types of semi auto pistols Lugers? C-96 Mausers?). I will try to find the article, but yes, Shockley knew, at least in this case, about the dumping.
