Re: 45-70 ball loads with black powder

I had an early 45/70 round that had separated at mid point and still had the bullet attached. Both the case and bullet had rifling marks and were found at Fort Custer, Montana. As to the current problem, could it be that the crimping of the case around the ball was too much? Jim
