Re: 45-70 ball loads with black powder

I would like to get some feed back on the feasibility of the following. I have a theory on why Tom Jacobson was having a case separation mid point with his three ball guard load that has been a recent topic. The round balls are pure lead and will obturate easily. The first ball loaded is seated back in the case to about mid point. With a lack of lube or improper lube could the balls obturate enough to grasp the inner case walls sufficiently to pull the forward portion of the case off.
