Yes, I have fired many BP standard loads in my 1884. My rifle is in mint condition and I bought it from Al Frasca. Fired brass shows no abnormalies what so ever. I had made up about 5 rounds of the ball loads and they all separated. Nothing hit the target at 25 yards and nothing was left in the bore. I do not load any more ball loads.
