Not sure as to men or officers has to do with guns in the racks? They did not take their guns with them, unless they purchased them (which was not un heard of), but if a gun was assigned to a particular company in 74, regardless of who came of left, one would assume the serviceable ones were still in the racks, and or reassigned to the new company commander.

I've only seen one officer in the 2nd cavalry who kept the records, or rather that of his favorite sergeant! They have to be out there still (in private collections).. the serial numbers of the weapons used by individual companies. I have some from one officer of the 19th Infantry in rifles in the 1880's but no one seems interested in that.
