While it is possible that the stamped trigger guard may itself be legit, and 10th marked equipment is not unknown, I doubt very much that the piece, in total as presented, including story, is correct, though I would note that very close numbered carbines are recorded with the that regiment, as late as 1894.

The M1879 rear sight, by condition and dating, is clearly dead wrong. If the carbine is one of those which went through R&R prior to the SAW, it should have a Buffington, humped band, and probably a covered front sight.

I'd also note the drastic price reduction - clearly he has encountered some previous resistance in moving it.
