What a rotten shame!!! I guess these people don't realize, or better yet, don't give a damn, that once your history is gone, its gone, and there is no bringing it back. I guess that is what happens when an historic site is located on private property and the owner is a greedy %&#&%%!!!. Here, we have Fort Bayard that belongs to the State. They don't know what to do with the site. There are just a few 19th century buildings left. Officers row is intact with nice quarters built in the early 1900s. They are just standing there decaying, and the whole place is open to the public. I have been waiting for some firebug to come along and toss a gas bomb into one of the quarters just out of pure cussedness. Fort Bayard had a long history, from 1866 to 1899 as a frontier post. From 1899 to just a few years ago, it was a hospital. They built a new hospital off site then, and left the rest of it to rot.
