Sorry, no info in the SRS database on 148916.

It is near the end of a long run of carbine numbers, so it is almost certainly a legitimate carbine.

There are a lot of "Indian Scout" associated numbers lower than that, then 4 associated with the 7th Cavalry, and one each with the 1st and 6th Cavalry, then some more Indian Scout guns. Of course, for numbers not listed, we have no idea what happened with those, and they may have stayed in crates in some Ordnance facility and done nothing exciting, may have been issued to militia units, or have been doing something else entirely.

Celebrate the ones that we do have some history for, and remember that for gun history "close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades."
