Re: 45-70 hand load

Not an easy answer. Do you want to make noise and smoke, hunt, reproduce original ballistics? Do you want to fire the early 405 grain bullets, the later 500ís or something else? I suggest doing some reading up on the subject. A good place to get started is Loading Cartridges For The Original .45-70 Springfield Rifle and Carbine by J.S. and Pat Wolf. Another is Forty Years With the .45-70 by Paul Matthews. There are many other good sources that are not hard to find.
