ID help please: M 84 Carbine

Posted by Emory Thompson on Thursday, 31 December 2015, at 11:36 a.m.

Hello, I just acquired a Model 84 trapdoor carbine. Problem is I am not sure what I have. This is the info from the gun: Lock - U.S. Model 1884 S/N - 549371 Barrel - 25in. if I measured right. V P Eagle P,(A)facing right on top of barrel just to right of centerline and across from proof stamps, (R)left side at intersection of barrel, breech and top of stock. No dovetail cut in muzzle for a sight block. Stock - Cartouch dated 1892, cannot make out other markings in cartouch. Inspector mark P (?) Right side of stock has a 16 stamped into it and under that is a raised 180(?). I have a listing that says there were no carbines made in 1892 and I thought carbine barrels were either 22 or 24in. Front sight is a hand made slide on that is a Marbles. Gun has been apart and I am beginning to think a have a re-barreled. Any help/explanation would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Emory Thompson Happy New Year
