Serial number 379891 was made around April or May 1887, and both carbines and rifles are found in that serial number range.

The stock mark on the left side would be SWP the inspection initials of Master Armorer Samuel W. Porter applied when the completed rifle was accepted. The P behind the trigger guard indicts it was "proof fired" and passed that test.
