Dick, thanks so much for the help.

Guessing I'm "close but no cigar" here...not only is there no wear on the stock at the band that would reflect the presence of a swivel, there is actually a gap between the wood and the band that is oddly crisp and unworn. It's like the band is "undersized" by a noticeable amount.

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but making sure I'm using the right terminology here...the lockplate is the top, actual "trap door", correct? And if so, you think the "Model 1873" there reads like a problem?

Really appreciate all your comments. The guy is asking $2800 for the gun, which now feels to me like should be more like a $850 shooter around the ranch, or maybe even "no thanks" and keep looking.
