The old Cresent wrench works just fine. I have my Dad's wrench from Pratt & Whitney. (WW2). I have removed dozens of tangs with it. I pad the wrench with rawhide. Place the receiver in your vice (padded) with the top flat resting on one jaw. As Dick states you may have to use a "cheater" bar. Black water pipe works great. When installing the replacement tang pay very close attention to the alignment to the receiver. Run your finger over the two parts to make sure that they are flush. Sneak up on TOC being careful not to go past center. SA had the alignment down to a T on these parts. If you don't feel good about doing the exchange you can mail them to me and I will do it for you. Only cost will be postage and I keep the old tang. Ernie
