Question about Cadet cleaning rod.

Posted by Ned on Thursday, 17 December 2015, at 10:54 p.m.

My Cadet rifle has a cleaning rod with a lock "slot" which does not extend completely around the circumference of the rod. One side is completely "flat" with no slot at all so that removing the rod is easy, simply twist it to the "flat" part faces the lock and it can be pulled out. I've never seen another similar to it. Question: Is it a reproduction, or was it issued? The rifle serial number is: 437055. The block is marked "1873" but it has a Buffington rear sight, stacking swivel, and no cartouche. The only marking on the stock is a small "4" the size of a typewritten number just behind the trigger group. Thanks Ned
