V = "viewed". "P" = "proved". Both refer to inspections of the barrel during manufacture. The mark giving you (and others) a problem, is a small eagle head. The circled "P" behind the trigger guard indicates passage of a 5-round functioning test, after assembly. In the condition you describe, value is probably around $1500.
