Hotchkiss Carbine

Posted by David Gibbens on Wednesday, 25 November 2015, at 4:37 p.m.

I know this is a bit off topic but believe this to be the best place to ask. I have a Winchester Hotchkiss carbine (I believe to be a model 1). The rear sight is missing the front part of the slider, i.e. the square part with the sighting "v" and the rivet.

It looks a lot like a model 1877 trapdoor sight. The side is stamped out to 400 yds and the ladder goes from 5 to 10. Unlike the 1877 the missing part does not have the "U" shaped cut at the bottom and the top points are squared off.

It is in nice shape. The wood is in great shape & solid, even around the cutoff, no cracks, splits, etc. It functions and fires quite well.

Anyone have a suggestion where I could get it fixed or replaced? Would prefer to fix so as to keep it original.

Thanks for your comments, suggestions or help.

David
