Re: Information on my Trapdoor 45-70

Jim, congrats on the TD, I take it is a rifle and not a carbine? A great gift from your Grandfather, I also plan to leave my collection to my children and then have it handed down to my grand children. Any 5 digit TD in "great" condition as you have described it is indeed a treasure, that is if it is truly in "great" condition and 100% correct. I know Dick had mentioned that your TD was probably used in the Span Am War but it could have just as easily seen Plains service. I have a 4 digit TD that is 100% correct but has all the earmarks of serious military use, and I think possibly IW use. Your's, being in the shape you describe would not have seen much service, if any, IMHO. I would suggest retiring the gun, that means not firing it any longer, and passing it down to your children, a great family heirloom!
