Pete, I found the Kopec letter. Kopec describes the gun as being well use but with no alterations. It was a new listing to his records and he found no historical data in the National Archives. The gun was manufactured in 1874 and is an O.W. Ainsworth inspected revolver. He goes on the state that there is some question as to why this revolver had escaped the Ordinance dept. recall. and that we can only speculate that it had escaped this recall because of being lost, stolen or captured by hostile indians.
