Allin trapdoor made in Belgium

Posted by Ed Hull on Monday, 27 April 2015, at 1:39 p.m.

Check out GunBroker item 476661833. It is a commercial version of the .45-70 trapdoor made in Belgium circa 1870 using mostly US rifle parts. The breech system is similar to the M1866 but the parts are unique. It is .45-70 caliber (.45 Govt.). I wrote about this rifle and the history of the commercial firms in the August, 1996 Gun Report. The buyer actually cleaned up and shot this rifle, using a black powder carbine cartridge load of .45/55/405. He says it shoots fine with a 0.4585 led bullet. Results: 3 inch group at 50 yards, 9 inch at 100 using the wide V open sights. Just thought you'd like to see something different.
