Breech will not close

Posted by ottis Reese on Wednesday, 22 April 2015, at 6:19 a.m.

Hello, I just bought my first trap door. I have obtained ammo loaded with 405 gr lead bullets. With nothing in the chamber the breech closes normally. But when I put the ammo in the chamber, the breech closes, but not completely. The release arm does not go all the way down. It stays in a position where it blocks the firing pin from the hammer. When I remove the ammo, I can see the indentation where it is engaging the rifling. I have measured the length of the ammo and it is with in spec according to reloading manuals. Has anyone had this issue before? It almost seems like the chamber needs reamed out, but I can't imagine it has been like this for 120 plus years and nobody noticed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
