A whole different world back then, for sure. Contrast those rifles against the plastic and aluminum crap, with sloppy fit and plenty of tool-marks, that we churn out today.

A lot of the rod-bayonet rifles were used - the brand new appearing arms seem to come from 1889 production of the standard rifle - many of which were clearly stored but never issued.
