1873 Springfield identification

Posted by Flint Harvey on Saturday, 18 April 2015, at 1:34 p.m.

Hi I'm looking to identify a rifle I just inherited. Serial # 196452. There is a stamp on the stock SWP or RWP with the date 1882. The plate on the side bears an eagle with US SPRINGFIELD. the door has US model 1873. The bayonet has a brass US clip riveted to leather on the scabbard. Scratched into the brass around the US seal is 43 F. Co. 3rd REG. I Would love to know what this rifle's story is. Thanks for any help.
