But it certainly indicates 1879 production, so, unless the receiver was somehow held back, the SWP/1883 cartouche would seem to indicate some swapping of parts.

As an aside, anyone interested in SA production would do well to at least read Joe Farmer's new Krag book, wherein some old ideas come under scrutiny. It has a fresh flavor which at the very least, bears serious consideration. Do I think he is right on every little point? No, but he certainly makes you think in a different light. It is well worth the money.
