It's certainly a low number - that's for sure. However, that model had its' own separate range of numbers from 1 to 3425+/-, all being made well after the basic M1868 rifle was in production. An odd feature is that the barrel number is not closer to the joint (compare with #62 under "Trapdoor News". I'm not saying it is wrong/faked - just strange.

Apparently this item was not listed clearly at first, because another poster here (Ed Hull) had hoped it might have been another early M1868, until the barrel length was clarified by the seller.
