Sergeant Ryan in his story stated he had traded carbine ammunition to an infantry sergeant for rifle rounds [did not say how many].So rifle would be .45 calibre 2.1 2.4 2.6 chambering?. When he left the service in late 1976 he auctioned off the Sharps rifle and it was won by a Sergeant White. Some years later he contacted White to buy the rifle back but White had sold it and did not recall to who it was sold. John Schofstall of C Sharps arms in Big Timber Mt. in his newsletter printed Ryans story that was in a series of letters he wrote to a newspaper to be used as a Sunday suplement over several weeks.Hope this helps.
