Re: model 1884 serial number search?

This highest number for any Model 1884 carbine in the SRS database is 452972, with the exception of four carbines listed on 1/29/92 (1892 or 1992?) with a Springfield Army museum number, and these are 467855, 496407, 558287 and 566228.

Therefore I believe your "carbine" is a rod bayonet rifle cut to carbine configuration.

Someone else can tell when it was made, as a rifle.
