Re: 1861 Springfield

I saw a lot of heavily cleaned guns at last years Timonium show and thought that was the case with this one. Once in hand, it appeared to have never been that dirty along with the fact that the barrel tang was raised rather than recessed, the hammer had fine outlined knurling, and the cartouches appeared to be printed rather than stamped on a stock that had crisp edges (that the salesman pointed out) and did not appear to have been sanded. Seemed to be red flags to me but I consider myself to still be a rookie on some of this stuff.
