Re: TD in 30-40 Krag

Approximately 15 were made; the whereabouts of 12 of them are, if not known exactly, at least tabulated. Six are known to be in museums, and six in private hands. So, there are approximately three in hiding, if in fact they still exist at all. Most are not serial numbered, and many more barrels were made than complete guns.

One long-held specimen from a collection in Texas was offered for sale at auction last year, but I did not track whether it actually sold or not. The asking price, while far out of my league, was, In my opinion, ridiculuously low.

The most recent "unknown" one to be "discovered" was in New England in 2001. Sadly, it had been crudely sporterized. I tried to bid on it by 'phone, but the piece was "quick-hammered". Fortunately, it went to a good cause, and was returned to the Armory.
