Ed- The .22 conversion on the first type USN M870 is marked the same as the other two: No. 7 WWK 1889 and the others on Type 2 rifles are numbers 89 and 96.

The conversion process is the same- set screw in the bottom of the barrel to hold the insert which is only about 2/3 of the barrel length, and slight upward bend about 6" from the muzzle. (Cheap way to raise the front sight blade to zero at shorter range!)
