1870 Navy on GB
Posted by Dick Hosmer on Monday, 16 February 2015, at 1:47 a.m.
This is an 1870 Navy - made at Springfield - but the important thing is that it is one of the first 10,000 with the rear sight mounted over the chamber, which the Navy rejected. Bayonet latch is intact, and rod is missing but one can be made from an 1868 TD rod.
It is rough, but WAY underpriced - seller clearly does not know what he has. These just don't come up for sale - it is now acknowledged that they did not go to France as was presumed for years, but it is the first one I have ever seen on Gunbroker.
No interest/no involvement/don't know seller - while it is perhaps a bit nicer than mine in some respects, I'm not bidding.
