Any info on US Model 1873 trapdoor carbine

Posted by Dave Esala on Tuesday, 3 February 2015, at 11:09 p.m.

private collector of military rifles recently purchased through estate sale an 1873 Springfield .45-70 trapdoor carbine. *137555, saddle bar ring, VP Eagle P on top of barrel with an R on also. Stock shows lots of old dings/ scratches. Dark patina on stock in right places, 3 holes in butt plate(stock) for rods. "US" stamped on metal butt plate. "C" on left side of 1 to 8 graduated rear sight. U stamped on front stock ring. Any cartouches have been worn off. Barrel = 20", just cleaned out and rifling excellent and shines. US Springfield and Eagle stamped on right side plate. I would appreciate any help on where to find history. Thanks much! Dave
