First, you were quite wise to stop. Obviously, something is not right, even though the degree of potential danger is as yet unknown. You need to get a GOOD clear look at the chamber, and also see if the "bulge" manifests itself on the exterior.
It may be that it can be polished out, if not too close to the case mouth, but I'm thinking you will need a new barrel. Such can be had at reasonable prices (see Al's classifieds, or Ebay, Gunbroker, etc.) and a barrel swap is not difficult.
Or, as a thought, it MIGHT be that the chamber could be bored out and a liner installed. That would not be an option on a high-power arm, but might work just fine for a TD. Sounds like a job for Bobby Hoyt in Fairfield PA.
