Point of clarification on Dick's excellent advice.
The flat tip of the tumbler punch fits down into the hammer screw hole, not up on the edges at the top. This way you can pound away pretty hard and not mess anything up.
The "band spring and tumbler punch" was used with all the muskets and trapdoors circa 1841-1888, under a few different names, and you probably have one in your collection, and this is a good time to use it.
