1873 Saddle Ring Carbine

Posted by Dave Ketterer on Saturday, 25 October 2014, at 4:07 p.m.

I acquired an 1873 Saddle Ring carbine (22" Barrel) with a low S#23281, one of the "Condemned" units. Is there information available on why the narrow breach block was unacceptable? Were they exploding in peoples faces? Photos are available. I reload45-70 for another modern gun and can generate some very low power loads if that is acceptable, but I don't want to harm the gun or myself.
