new to me 1884

Posted by Colby on Tuesday, 7 October 2014, at 11:50 a.m.

I just acquired a Trapdoor 1884, serial #512966. I took it on trade for an old lawn tractor that I had not used in years. Im trying to figure out exactly what I have and possible worth. To the best of my research it looks like the gun was manufactured in 1891.. It has all the characteristics of a carbine (lack of markings on the stock (regular Army not reissued??), no sling swivels, no cleaning rod etc...) Problem is, from what I can tell Springfield didnt make a carbine in 1891. Am I misreading the manufacture chart? Has someone chopped and refinished the stock to look like a carbine? It does have the tool storage behind the buttplate but no tools. Can anyone help me?
