Having purchased a Springfield M1903 recently I was curious about the possible use of some trapdoor parts, primarily screws, in the 1903. In refinishing the stock on the 1903 it struck me that some screws were very much like those on the trapdoor rifles I have. Did Springfield in it's thrifty mode use leftover screws from the trapdoor line in the new rifle it was producing, possibly continuing to manufacture the same screws? Or might they have purchased the same screws for both rifles from the same supplier? I have not pulled any screws out for a side by side comparison. I dislike loosening screws unless absolutely necessary to keep from enlarging the holes that they are in. It's not a critical enough question for me to do so. However that does not eliminate my curiosity. And if they are the same, what would be considered the propriety of using a trapdoor screw in an 03 or vice versa if one didn't have the "correct" one on hand? Thanks, RB
