problem with loading an 1884 trapdoor

Posted by joe on Saturday, 13 September 2014, at 10:44 p.m.

Have had an 1884 trapdoor for several years and decided to use it for Ohio's deer hunting season now that the cartridge is legal for use in the buckeye state. Purchased some .45-70 ammo (405g solid lead cowboy rounds) and went to the range to site in the old girl. The rounds will not seat in the chamber - I'm an FNG with shooting the trapdoor. Does this gun require a special round? Am I just loading incorrectly?
