Finally got to see/hold the rifle. It's a beauty - attic mint. Proud wood, 85-90% oil case, 50% color case on hammer and lockplate, very visible, though not crisp, cartouches (just 2), decent bore (solid barrel), un-marred screw slots, etc., etc. Dings and some rust here and there, but very little wear per se. It is bone dry - can't wait to see what an oily rag will do.

Cleaning this rifle (very gently) will be a winter project, not to be rushed, and there are some things I may leave alone.

Al, the block is good - admittedly not the prettiest strike on the "8" but I can definitely live with it!
