Re: Varget as a smokeless propellant for low-power 45-70?

Well, I got 20 rounds loaded up, using 40.0 grains of Varget with CCI 200 primers and 405 hollow base projectiles. I'm hoping to test a few out this weekend at my friends ranch. My old Lee loading manual only lists the 40.0 grain load, but other sources like Hodgdons site list the 40-50 grain range with CCI 200 primers. Other books like the Lyman 49th Edition list a slightly different range, starting at 42 grains for this weight projectile, but with Remington 9-1/2 standard primers, which I am to understand are not as hot as the CCI primers. 15,600 CUP is pretty light and should be easy on the rifle, which I'm happy about.
