I think the proper answer to both of your questions is probably "no", at least no one has admitted to #1. The quality is both good and bad. SHG made some very attractive sporters with octagon barrels, nicely checkered, etc. Several were made in .40-65.

By far the highest volume was in the cadet market, which produced some really ugly guns with a mongrel batch of parts. The only common denominator between them all is that the SA parts used are all early, since none were sold after word of the burgeoning cottage arms-making industry got back to the Ordnance Dept.
