Another possibility is enamel reducer, typically used to cut automobile paint. I've found it will work as good or better than any solvent other than a paint stripper. I've used it in conjunction with paint stripper. After wiping the stripper off, immediately follow up with the enamel reducer while the remaining paint is still soft from the stripper. I have not however used it on a rifle barrel. As mentioned earlier it would be best to test out on a hidden portion of the rifle. RB
