Nobody said was going to be quick and easy :)

A hand rubbed oil finish is very time consuming, but a big advantage of it is that it's IN the wood and not ON the wood. One week of rubbing is nothing. However, you can speed it up some by filling the pores of the wood. I'm too lazy to explain it but a simple internet search will yield you with numerous formulas, products, etc.

This is one reason that products such as Tru-Oil are popular as you can acquire an oil finish quickly. HOWEVER, although Tru-Oil can be done successfully by some people, I find that it dries too fast for me and leaves a plastic/polyurethane look to the finish.

Once again, one week is nothing.
