See if you can wiggle the extractor front to rear with your fingers or a screwdriver. (working on the small square tab that protrudes slightly between the left ear of the receiver and the breech block.

There should be a spring and plunger behind the extractor so the plunger rides in a detent on the extractor. This will make it nearly impossible to move the extractor by hand. However, when the breech is opened, the spring pressure will "snap" the extractor once it rotates past a certain point while the block is being opened.

If the extractor spring is broken, or the plunger badly bent, it may keep the extractor from "snapping" so that while it will extract okay, it will not fling the empty case back with the force needed to bounce it off the ejector (sloping stud at the bottom rear of the receiver trough.
