How long IS the barrel? Two full-stocked versions exist, which have somewhat shorter barrels than the normal 32-5/8". If you email me (richardahosmerATcomcastDOTnet), possibly with some pictures, I should be able to tell you more. Pictures may not be posted here.

No, it was not "common" for them to have been sporterized, but, they do occasionally turn up. Such work greatly reduces value. of course.

The stamps under the barrel indicate passage of firing with high-pressure "proof" loads. The P on the stock indicates passage of the final functioning test, prior to placement in storage, ready for issue.
