I just noticed a related photo. In google images you can see the thumbnail at bottom right when viewing the first photo I mentioned. It shows trapdoor-armed guardsmen, bayonets fixed, escorting prisoners through a park. It is from Corbis, under the heading Boston Police Strike, and is titled: A crowd of "crop shooters" being taken to the station house."
