cast and jacketed bullets

Posted by Terry Wagner on Monday, 27 January 2014, at 4:56 p.m.

Took my 1873 to the range for the first time; Shot a number of 300 gr. jacketed bullets with 3031 using 43 grains.I bought from a fellow reloader. Then shot 2 rounds I reloaded,350 gr. cast with 4759 using 26.5 grains and polyfill material above the powder. Question is why did those last 2 rounds have a muffled sound. They were .458 dia. and the polyfill was just packed enough to keep the powder in place, not cramed in as much as possible.
